The dreaded 'someone is typing' dots have entered the impeachment drama

Text messages briefly took center stage during the first part of Donald Trump's impeachment hearings, and with them have come one of the worst parts of texting: those three little dots that signify "someone is typing."

On Wednesday, the first two witnesses in the official impeachment probe — American diplomats Bill Taylor and George Kent — testified in public hearings on Capitol Hill.

As the two men began answering questions from the Democrats, several text messages between Taylor, U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland, and Kurt Volker, former U.S. Ambassador to NATO, were referenced. For those in the room and the people watching at home, renderings of the text messages were recreated and blown up on a screen.

While the content of the texts is extremely serious, people couldn't help but be amused with the graphics, which featured ellipses, or the dreaded three dots that leave you hanging on the edge of your seat for a reply.

Several texts shown at the testimony thus far featured those stress-inducing three dots, along with photos of the people involved in the messages, and even blue chat bubbles. Twitter users commended the effort to recreate an authentic text exchange, but also found some humor in the dots.

Some viewers were busy focusing on the terrifying "call me" text that Taylor sent in response to a paragraph-long message, and other were laughing over a text from Volker, which he signed "- kurt." A real boomer move.

Overall, the text graphics seem to be a hit, and if anything, lightened the mood for exactly one second until we remembered we were watching an impeachment hearing.
