On Tuesday night, New York City was treated to a spectacular show in the form of a severe thunderstorm.

The top of One World Trade Center was reportedly hit by lightning multiple times and the pictures are striking.

Luckily for us, Twitter is full of amateur storm chasers.

The storms accompanied a cold front that caused a widespread outbreak of severe weather across the Northeast on Tuesday. Wind damage and possible tornadoes were reported from Maine to Virginia as the front collided with a hot and steamy air mass along the East Coast.

There were also plenty of absolutely wild videos going around too. It's like something out of movie about the apocalypse.

Well, it's settled: nature is truly terrifying, and you should stay indoors basically always.
