There probably won't be a new Samsung Galaxy Note this year

Samsung doesn't plan on launching a new Galaxy Note smartphone this year.

This is according to Samsung's head of mobile DJ Koh, who said so at a shareholder meeting according to Korean outlet Digital Daily (via MySmartPrice).

Samsung isn't completely giving up on the Note, though. According to Koh, there will be a new Note in 2022, though exact timing is undecided at this point.

The reasoning behind the decision appears to be similar to what was speculated earlier this year: With the Samsung Galaxy S Ultra getting S-Pen support, there's no real need for a Note device, the most distinctive features of which are pen support and a large display.

Koh also noted issues with parts supply, saying it's been a problem in the second quarter of this year.

"The disparity between the supply of parts and demand in the information technology (IT) side is severe. We are checking the parts supply problem every morning. It is difficult to say that it is 100 percent resolved," said Koh.

The last device in the Galaxy Note series, the Galaxy Note 20, was launched in August 2020, and we found it to be pretty good, though there definitely was a lot of overlap between the Note devices and the S series devices. This year, it appears that choosing the right Samsung phone will be a little less complicated.
