Twitter strikes comedy gold with stream of jokes over Trump report

The shockwaves around BuzzFeed's publishing of an unverified intelligence dossier alleging deep ties between President-elect Donald Trump, his campaign and the Russian government continue to ripple. Meanwhile, Twitter has coalesced around one thing: pee jokes.

The unverified report published late Tuesday was allegedly prepared by a former British intelligence agent paid initially by anti-Trump Republicans and then by Democrats, CNN reported. CNN did not include any of the specific allegations contained within the dossier in its report, because the media company had not verified the claims, though the dossier has apparently been making the rounds among government officials and journalists for some time.

Buzzfeedwrote in its post that it published the full documents "so that Americans can make up their own minds about allegations about the president-elect that have circulated at the highest levels of the US government."

Among those allegations: that Trump hired prostitutes to participate in a sex act on a bed in a Moscow Ritz-Carlton Hotel in a room the Obamas had stayed in months earlier.

That allegation is just one among dozens of unverified claims that, if they were corroborated and verified, would give Russia a wealth of blackmail material and cause a crisis on Capitol Hill. The contents of the dossier had been summarized by intelligence officials for Obama and Trump in a two-page synopsis last week, according to CNN.

Trump's attorney, Michael Cohen, denied the claims to Mic, telling them, "It's so ridiculous on so many levels. Clearly the person who created this did so from their imagination or did so hoping that the liberal media would run with this fake story for whatever rationale they might have."

Trump, too, forcefully denied the report in a tweet.

But Twitter is Twitter and rather than debate the merits of publishing completely unverified, unsubstantiated reports or the allegations of financial ties to Russian government figures, its users fixated on the pee and brought the jokes raining down.

And you know there are hashtags trending, like "#PEETUS" and "#PEEOTUS."
