Gymnast McKayla Maroney is vaulting into the music world-

McKayla Maroney is used to getting press during the Olympics, so naturally she made a big announcement this week.

The retired 2012 gold medal-winning gymnast and friend of Obama is set to drop her debut single next month.

“I like to say my genre is vulnerable pop because it’s all melody and lyrically driven and heart driven,” Maroney told Us Weekly. Her song “Ghost” will drop on Sept. 8.

After facing several injuries since the 2012 Olympics, Maroney decided to give up competitive gymnastics, and she explained how making music has helped ease her transition out of the gymnastics world.

"It was such a big test for me to be like, you know what? No! I’m worth more than a gold medal," she told Us Weekly. "I’m worth more than being a gymnast. I am not what I do. I am who I am and I’m what I love.”

If "Ghost" is half as good as Maroney's epic 2012 vault, it will surely be a billboard hit.
