Theresa May resigned and the internet wants the Downing Street sound engineer to replace her

UK Prime Minister Theresa May has announced she will resign on 7 June to make way for a new prime minister.

In a speech outside Downing Street, May said she had done her best to try to fulfil the 2016 EU referendum result, but that it was a "deep regret" that she was unable to deliver Brexit.

People on Twitter have already set their sights on a new candidate, however: the Downing Street sound engineer.

Prior to May's departure speech, a sound engineer was caught smiling at the camera. Not one to miss anything, the good people of Twitter were quick to screenshot this cheerful chap's beaming smile and declare him our new PM.

Sounds like he's in with a chance.
