Australia offers 'democracy sausages' to Americans in their hour of need

Don't worry, America. Australia's here to comfort you on Election Day with our questionable meat products.

Eating a "democracy sausage," otherwise known as a barbecued sausage with burnt onions on a slice of white bread, is a sacred Australian election day tradition.

The cheap sandwich is offered at almost every polling station whenever Australians vote -- a compulsory act for every citizen, and thankfully, always held on the weekend.

In town to cover the election, ABC journalist Michael Rowland shared democracy sausages with the voting citizens of Washington, D.C., using the wafting smell of the "sausage sizzle" to entice the Americans to share their preferred president.

Because he was in D.C., which is blue as hell, everyone seemed to be voting for Hillary.

But fair warning to any presidential candidate who attempts to consume a democracy sausage: Eating it from the middle instead of using the correct end-to-end technique, is a serious political liability.

You're welcome, America. Enjoy the snags.
