Norwegian black metal musician unexpectedly elected to town council-

If a dog can be mayor, then a Norwegian black metal star can certainly be on town council.

Gylve “Fenriz” Nagell, drummer for the band Darkthrone, agreed to be a backup candidate for the local government position in his town of Kolbotn, Oslo, Norway, even though he never thought he stood a chance. Then, he was elected.

Although Fenriz is busy making Satanic music and promoting Darkthrone's new album Arctic Thunder, he was not allowed to deny his new position on town council.

"[I]f you get voted in, you have to stay in that position for four years. And then you can pull out," Fenriz told CLRVYNT.

"Basically, they called and asked if I wanted to be on the list [of backup representatives]. I said yeah, thinking I would be like 18th on the list and I wouldn’t really have to do anything."

Despite Fenriz' reluctance, citizens of the 9,000-person town showed massive support for him.

"My campaign was a picture of me holding my cat saying, 'Please don’t vote for me.' But people just went nuts," Fenriz said.

Some of his fans were so thrown off by the news that they couldn't even form opinions, and some felt inspired by it.

Even though some Darkthrone fans are excited for Fenriz, the singer just can't get on board.

"I’m not too pleased about it. It’s boring," said Fenriz. "There’s not a lot of money in that, either, I can tell you!"

Hopefully Kolbotn will let Fenriz play his black Norwegian black metal music throughout the town.
