Autoplaying video ads will soon invade your Facebook Messenger inbox-

Somehow, Facebook is still finding ways to make Facebook Messenger more annoying.

Now, the company plans to bring autoplaying video ads to users Messenger inboxes as soon as Monday, according to a report from Recode.

Ads aren't new to Messenger, but until now they've been limited to static, News Feed-style ads, not the more intrusive autoplaying videos.

But after more than a year of testing those ads, which have appeared about halfway down in users' inboxes, the Messenger team reportedly thinks the automatically playing videos won't be a nuisance.

“Top priority for us is user experience,” Facebook Messenger's business chief told Recode.

“So we don’t know yet [if these will work]. However, signs until now, when we tested basic ads, didn’t show any changes with how people used the platform or how many messages they send.”

The best part, though, is not that Loukaos professed to actually believe that users won't mind battery-sucking autoplaying video ads, but that he did so while at "a beachside cabana at the Cannes Lions advertising festival."

When reached for comment, a spokesperson for Messenger provided the following statement:

"As we shared with advertisers at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, we are now expanding the availability of video ads to Messenger. We will be rolling out video ads gradually and thoughtfully. People that use Messenger are our top priority and they will remain in control of their experience.”
